The RMHC-EIWI “Red Shoe Run and Walk 5k and Half Marathon” will be celebrating its 35th year in 2019! Participants can start checking in or register for the race at 7:00 am. The event will kick-off with a fun 100 yard dash for kids called “Ronald’s Run”. Soon thereafter the half-marathon and 5k officially starts! The route will take place on the streets and public trails of Iowa City and Coralville. Along the route will be water stations and “Cheer Zones” to root for the runners. Outside of the race we will have a Kids Zone that will include a bounce house, inflatable obstacle course, face painting, balloon animals, and representatives from the local children’s museum.

The event will begin at the Ronald McDonald House in Iowa City located at 730 Hawkins Drive. The participants will run a pre-planned route throughout the city streets and city park trails of Coralville and Iowa City. At the Ronald McDonald House, we will have a Kids Zone, VIP Tent and a Medical Tent. The Ronald McDonald House Charities of Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois helps families with sick children stay close to each other and the care they and resources they need, when they need it most. Through the Ronald McDonald House of Iowa City and our Family Rooms in Iowa City and Cedar Rapids, we help remove the barriers that separate families while they receive treatment for a critically ill or injured child. We’re more than just a place to stay—our House and Family Rooms provide the essential comforts of home: warm beds, hot showers, home-cooked meals, kitchen and laundry facilities, a playground, recreation areas, and more. The Ronald McDonald House Charities of Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois welcome families from all backgrounds, and never turn away guests due to an inability to pay. In fact, 68% of our families cannot contribute anything toward their stay. RMHC-EIWI provides care and comfort to children and their families by supporting the 31-room “home-away-from-home” Ronald McDonald House of Iowa City. Additional programs include a Ronald McDonald Family Room at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, a Ronald McDonald Family Room and Ronald McDonald Food Pantry at the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital. All proceeds from the “Red Shoe Run and Walk 5k and Half Marathon” go back to RMHC-EIWI to provide families the comfort of home with warm beds, hot meals, showers, kitchens and laundry services during their stay in Iowa City.
