Summertime is for hanging out in the sun and being with your family. Check out some of the activities that you can do this summer to enjoy family time and outdoor time!
1. Camping & Cabin Rentals through Linn County Conservation
Spend your summer in the great outdoors! Cedar Rapids has plenty of outdoor to be explored. With parks, trails, playgrounds, camping, hiking, geocaching, horseback riding and fishing, Linn County Conservations will keep you entertained and loving the outdoors! Cabins and camping sites are available to reserve in Linn County Conservations. Search for cabin availability or search for camp site availability.
2. Watercraft Rental at Pinicon Ridge
Cool off during the hot summer with water activities in Pinicon Ridge! Pinicon Ridge provides in-park rentals, such as paddleboats, canoes and kayaks. Calm backwater channels and the slow-flowing Wapsipinicon River provide miles of water trails throughout the park. Campsites and picnic areas along the waterways allow you to paddle right up to your family & friends! Frisbees, volleyballs, horseshoes and various snacks are also available at the concession for a nominal fee.
3. Parks, Dog Parks, Splash Pads & More
Cedar Rapids alone has 97 different parks which cover more than 4,100 acres of land. They include everything from athletic fields and Frisbee golf courses to off-leash dog exercise areas, trails, and playgrounds. If you are up for camping, geocaching, horseback riding, cross-country skiing, or fishing we’ve got spots for that too. There are some 100 miles of trails and more than 7,000 protected acres in all of Linn County. So what are you waiting for? Get outside and check out some of our top parks.
4. Speedeezz Indoor Karting
Have a need for speed? Climb into a kart at Speedezz Indoor Karting and feel like a racecar driver for the day. This family-owned indoor racing facility is run by experts who want to make family friendly entertainment more accessible, affordable and fun. Speedeezz is open every day of the year and Drivers must be at least 10 years old and 54 inches tall in order to reach the pedals. Shorter kids can ride with a licensed driver in a double kart.
5. The Play Station
The Play Station, eastern Iowa’s best place for indoor family fun, offers a fun and imaginative 3 level play center specially designed for kids 12 and under, an arcade and lazer frenzy. Play Station has recently renovated the arcade, adding in lots of fun new games and lazer frenzy is an exciting new arcade-style laser maze attraction with high-tech interactive game play and its use of lasers, mirrors, haze, effects, and unique theming. Whether you plan a birthday, event or just a fun summer day at Play Station, you will not be disappointed.
6. Great America Popcorn Co. – soon to be Almost Famous
Great American Popcorn Co. is the ideal place to go to fill your sweet tooth. With over 100 recipes of homemade popcorn, fudge and 24 flavors of ice cream, Great American Popcorn Co. will make your summer cool and sweet. It is open every day throughout the summer and is located across from NewBo City Market.
7. Hall Bicycles
Hall Bicycle will get you out on the trails with great deals on bicycle rentals. Navigate Cedar Rapids’ protected bike lanes before hooking up with an extensive area trail system, with plenty of places to stop along with way for a cool drink before returning!
