From festivals to sporting events to famers' markets, this summer is full of fun and exciting events. Check out this list below to keep you and the family entertained!
Friday, May 18 to Sunday, May 20, is the Czech Village Association’s 41st Annual Houby Days. The festival takes place in Czech Village, located in southwest Cedar Rapids near the New Bohemia area, with many of the events taking place around 16th Avenue SW.
Houby Days is a festival that celebrates Czech heritage and culture. It includes a pageant, carnival, live music, food, dancing, a parade, and many other events. Admission is free.
“Houby” is a Czech word for mushroom, which are present all throughout the festival with events such as the egg and houby breakfast that takes place from 8-11 on both Saturday and Sunday.
The festival kicks off with the National Czech & Slovak Museum & Library’s Taste of Czech on Friday from 5-7 pm. With food vendors, live music and artisans starting off the festival and continuing throughout the three days, it is a guaranteed fun event to honor and celebrate Czech heritage.

Marion Arts Festival:
On May 19, 2018, in City Square Park in Marion, is the 25th Annual Marion Arts Festival. The Marion Arts Festival has been named as one of the Top 25 Festivals in the country, the #1 show feature 100 artists or fewer and the best 1 day event in the nation.
Dedicated to showing high quality art to a wide range of people, the Marion Arts Festival offers a family friendly experience with events such as The Empty Bowls Project, Art in the Depot, Emerging Artists Program and the 5K Run-Walk.
The Empty Bowls Project involves over 500 of area students that create over 1,000 ceramic bowls that will be donated to the festival and sold to raise money for local food banks. The Arts in the Depot activity finds the students of all ages who want to contribute in making ceramic bowls that will be sold the following year for the Empty Bowls Project.
The Emerging Artists Program showcases young artists work, who have been mentored to sell their work alongside the festival’s juried exhibitors. The 5K Run-Walk invites runners to take a course through uptown Marion for the chance of winning $1,100 in prize money, giveaways and thousands of dollars in raffle drawings.

Cedar Rapids Freedom Festival:
Celebrate your favorite holiday for 2 weeks with the Cedar Rapids Freedom Festival from June 14-July 4. With over 70 events all leading up to the grand finale of an extravagant fireworks display on July 4.

Cedar Rapids Kernels Baseball Games:

Downtown Farmers' Market, Marion Farmers Market & More:
Walk around downtown Cedar Rapids on a warm summer morning, enjoying the warmth and browsing through the variety of vendors at the Downtown Farmers’ Market.
Cedar Rapids Downtown Famers’ Market is one of the largest open-air markets in the Midwest. Every 1st and 3rd Saturday from 7:30-noon, check out the nearly 200 local Iowa vendors. From meats, produce, flowers and artisan gifts, the market is something that you do not want to miss.
Also be sure to check out the Marion Market from May 5 – September 29 every Saturday morning in Taube Park. Browse local baked goods, produce, homemade crafts and more.

NewBo City Market is a great place to spend your time at this summer. With events such as Rock the Block, Food Trunk Wednesdays and Meet Me at the Market, there is always something fun and exciting going on at NewBo.

The BBQ Roundup at the McGrath Amphitheatre, will run from Thursday June 21 from 11:00am to 10:00pm, Friday June 22nd from 11:00am to 11:00pm, Saturday June 23rd, from 11:00am to 11:00pm, and Sunday June 24th from 11:00am to 4:00pm. As part of the Freedom Festival, this event is guaranteed fun and entertainment for you and the whole family.
With local bands and national vendors as far away as Texas and Florida, BBQ Roundup will keep you entertained and fill your stomach with delicious food.

Linn County Fair:
Another affiliate event to the Freedom Festival, the Linn County Fair runs from June 27-July 2. The Linn County Fair includes a Mega Truck Freestyle Mania on Thursday, Professional Bull Riding with Lonestar in concert on Friday, ECIPA Truck and Tractor Pull of Saturday and Freestyle Madness Motto & BMX Throwdown to end the weekend on Sunday.

The Classics at Brucemore: Picnic
